here's one to take on the subway. now i'm not gonna tell you what to do here. but i did pile all these logs by this tree stump in my local woods. this is my handiwork you're trying to capture. and it's still there too, 4 years later. this is about transforming a place you know very well into something new. something different. it may not last years, maybe moments only. what is halloween but an opportunity, for one day a year, to transform? putting this together i met two women, a beautiful couple who had just moved to my area from Chile. they were livestreaming their little walk in the woods when they stopped to ask what i was doing. if you see a stranger doing something interesting, interesting without being threatening, weird without being inane, introduce yourself. make a new friend. a friend can be anybody. sometimes friends are for years. sometimes they're for moments only. for months after i would occasionally see one of the women at the grocery store, or when i was out walking my dog. then i stopped walking my dog. or maybe she stopped eating. i don't know. started a garden instead. fuck the westons. still. i'm glad they came over. i'm glad we were friends, for moments only. go out there and introduce yourself to someone. costume or no costume. logs or no logs.
